Health Care Passed. God Is Still Sovereign.
One question that’s echoing throughout the country today is, “How did this happen?” An atrocious health care bill passed through the senate on Monday making it one of the most invasive bills ever, taking away the rights of so many American people. It is a blanket move for government to take control of just about every area of an American citizen’s life.
Some are elated. Now their fears can be assuaged. They no longer have to wonder what they’re going to do. Uncle Obama, aunt Pelosi, and Cousin Reid, among others, has supposedly come to their rescue once again in getting them something for nothing.
Others have another kind of fear. Fear that it’s the end of the United States as we’ve known it. To them, the president is an anti-Christian, Muslim terrorist in disguise and the United States is doomed from now until Kingdom come.
Both attitudes are wrong.
A Closer Look
As we speak, lawsuits are being filed all over the nation challenging the constitutionality of various portions of the bill with the biggest one being forcing health care on people that don’t want it and fining or imprisoning them for not taking it.
In addition, there’s time to stop it and republicans like John McCain are calling for a repeal just as it comes out the oven. Plus the agencies charged with enforcing the bill have no funding. So if people refused to take this health care, trying to pick up those fines would be near nigh impossible.
I want to say to all of my conservative brothers and sisters, that’s not reason enough to give us any kind of hope.
He’s Still In Charge
Throughout all of the hoopla, anxiety, and trepidation, one thing has remained constant: God is still running things.
Understand: God is not surprised. As the Joker says in the movie Dark Knight, “It’s all part of the plan.” God rules and reigns over everything. He controls the outcome. Some have an erroneous and straight up wrong view that God is in support of this because it passed. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
God only directly supports those things which agree with His word. The Bible is rife with kings that were evil: Ahab, Ahaz, Manasseh, Jeroboam, Nadab, and others. God did not condone their evil reigns, but allowed it under His sovereign hand (Proverbs 21:1). Taking the freedom He gave to oppress people, either a little or much, is not in His will (Proverbs 16:12). It’s because of man’s evil and the acceptance of it that we’re where we’re at today. Yet, God is still in control. That should make us smile and give us strength as a people for our next move.
What Now?
So, even though God is in control, do we have a fatalist attitude and just say, “Well, things are just going to be how they’re going to be?” No. We still live in a republic. We still can vote people out. We still can work for a better future. Setbacks are just that. They’re not written forever. That belongs unto God. We serve Him. In serving Him, we should serve others through education, motivation, sincerity, and truth.
Politicians are human and therefore finite. This health care bill passing is temporary and it’s not the end. We know the end because we know Him. We can smile today in true hope and know that since God is ultimately in control, He won’t leave or forsake us, no matter what.
