The Low Down On Ben Stein’s "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed"
I first heard about the documentary “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” through my email about two months before it was released. This was a subject that was of interest to me since I was well acquainted with the subject matter.
Opening weekend, I went to see it I was impressed but I wasn’t blown away. It didn’t reveal much to me personally but there were some nuggets in there. However, looking at it from a first timer’s eyes, this was an excellent primer to an area that is readily swept under the rug by the media. That made it good enough for me to want to purchase when it comes out on DVD.
To give a brief summary, “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” is a documentary exposing Darwinism for what it is and revealing the vehemence against the alternative to evolution: intelligent design. It stars Ben Stein, famous for his monotone voice as the economics teacher in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?), his game show Win Ben Stein’s Money, and as a spokesman for Visine.
The viewer is guided through the story by Mr. Stein, greeting professors and scientists fired for even mentioning or considering intelligent design. Then they’re given a brief montage of life according to John Lennon’s song Imagine (which Yoko Ono and her children are raising a hissy about), and a tour of the holocaust facility that incorporated eugenics, the obvious tie being Darwinism.
One of the highlights is when Mr. Stein questions scientists who support evolution and asks them specifically how they think life got on Earth. One says it got here on the back of crystals, a point that seemed very simple for him to believe but he couldn’t quite understand why Mr. Stein didn’t grasp it right away. Another said it was lightning sparks, reminiscent of Frankenstein’s monster. Another postulated that life came from aliens…you know, the one with huge eyes and head and come in a variety of colors, the most common being gray and green.

And they say the Bible is full of fairy tales. Riiight.
The best part was saved for last, when Ben Stein sits down with scientist, evolutionist cheerleader, and staunch atheist Richard Dawkins, author of The God Delusion (and it’s corresponding response The Dawkins Delusion). Throughout the documentary, he’s shown stating that evolution is a fact and there is no other way life got on Earth, especially by intelligent design. But he is clearly caught off guard when Ben Stein questions him about the distinct possibility of intelligent design and basically recants and says that there is a slim chance that intelligent design may have been the cause…..but it wasn’t God.
All in all, I suggest you go see it. It’s put together well, it’s a potential eye opener, and even if you’re well versed in the subject, you’re bound to enjoy it on the basis that it’s encouraging to know that someone out there is putting it on the line for the truth.
