Conservatism Doesn’t Equal Christian

May 15, 2009 By: P.R.E.Z. Category: Christian, bible, christianity, conservatism, conservative republicans, faith

republicanrepent1Being a conservative, I know that I’m going to get some upside down smiley faces on this one. Even so, the truth is that being a conservative doesn’t mean you’re a Christian. They are not synonymous and are exclusive of one another.

The philosophy of conservatism is in line with Christian doctrine on all kinds of levels which is why that is my political leaning. I cover this in my three part series What’s A Conservative Christian? However, the foundation I base that on supersedes the conservative philosophy which is the Bible itself.

Many conservatives get it twisted. They think that because the philosophy lines up with scripture and that they label themselves conservative, that somehow this qualifies them as being a Christian.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

CONFORMATION

The litmus test of being a Christian is a changed life in adherence to the word of God. It is a continual outworking of of love through the power of the Holy Spirit in response to someone laying down their life for Jesus Christ in affirmation and realization of their sinful condition.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:2)

I have met many conservatives throughout the past year who live lives in direct contradiction to the word of God but have deceived themselves into thinking they’re Christians. Their mouths spew all kinds of filthiness and venom and their lifestyles do not reflect the holiness of God.

I have this saying that if you have to tell someone you’re a Christian, that’s probably a clear indication that you’re not. Jesus says it like this:

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. (Matthew 15:8)

JUDGE NOT

The response of many to these allegations is, “You can’t judge me. The Bible says don’t judge.” My response to that is, “Yes, the Bible does say that. But what is it talking about?”

Matthew 7:1 is the verse that people like to reference to prohibit all kinds ofchristonmountain1 judgment, especially on them. But that’s not what this is talking about. Warren Wiersbe puts it nicely:

We must not pass judgment on others’ motives. We should examine their actions and attitudes, but we cannot judge their motives–for only God can see their hearts. It is possible for a person to do a good work with a bad motive. It is also possible to fail in a task and yet be very sincerely motivated.

In other words, a good work doesn’t make you good, and you may be sincere but sincerely wrong.

As Christians we are told to judge a plethora of things: whether someone is in the faith (Galatians 5:19-21, 2 Corinthians 6:14), whether a teacher is doctrinally sound (Matthew 7:15-20, 1 John 4:1), who’s qualified to lead in the church (1 Timothy 3:13), and a host of other things.

William McDonald puts it perfectly:

Jesus is not teaching that we are to be undiscerning Christians. He never intended that we abandon our critical faculty or discernment. The New Testament has many illustrations of legitimate judgment of the condition, conduct, and teaching of others. In addition, there are several areas in which the Christian is commanded to make a decision, to discriminate between good and bad or between good and best.

“I AGREE.” ISN’T ENOUGH

Conservatives (and people in general) miss the boat by thinking that agreeing with something is belief. But biblical belief goes beyond mental assent. It means doing.

Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? (James 2:18)

Of course, there’s no way we can do this by just a force of will. We must be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit and willingly give ourselves over to Him. This is more easily done when we realize that there is nothing good in our hearts. We’re sinful and evil.

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jeremiah 17:9)

This is what must be addressed and God is not going to judge on the basis of our political philosophy but on the conduct of our lives by relation to His Son Jesus Christ.

So, to my conservative brothers and sisters I say this: major on the Lord Jesus Christ. Minor on conservatism. That way, your conservatism is founded on something far greater that can change people’s lives.

Republican, Conservative, and Black

January 26, 2009 By: P.R.E.Z. Category: abortion, african americans, blacks, conservative republicans, macho sauce

I think that it’s very important to understand that all black people did not vote for Barack Obama. As a matter of fact, when we look at the results of the popular vote, it came down to a 52% to 48% split which means that pretty much half of the nation did not want Barack Obama to president. I’m going to take a wild guess and say that a good portion of those were black Americans.

Being black and conservative appears to have some kind of Pariah complex tied to it in the black culture. However, more and more are bucking that mindset as they actually begin to educate themselves on what it means to be a conservative. If you’ve missed that then you may want to check out my series answering the question What’s A Conservative Christian?

That being said, I’d like to provide some proof of my statements.

Below is a young black man that’s a conservative republican. I know that some people are just stunned but there are many out there. He has a series of videos out that I follow and some of are very good. This happens to be one of them.

It all goes to show that not all black people fell for the ruse.

The Conservative Christian Resistance

November 13, 2008 By: P.R.E.Z. Category: barack obama, conservative Christian, conservative republicans, subscribing, truth manifesto, truth movement

I was talking to a couple friends the other day and they were obviously frustrated about the election. One of them said the that we were in a bad way and that there was just nothing we could do about the situation. I beg to differ. 58 million people voted for McCain compared to 66 million that voted for Obama. I’m convinced the black vote changed everything in this election. But 58 million people for a weak candidate like McCain is nothing to sneeze at.

There are more than a couple things we who are conservative Christians, or simply conservative, can do to work against the coming liberal policy storm on the horizon:

Grassroots With Grassfire.Org

There’s a very simple website at Grassfire.org that is dedicated to coming against the Obama administration and the humanistic, secular, anti-Christ, anti-bible agenda that they’ll be bringing to the table. They spell out in detail what we’re against and have a petition to sign and a way to donate to help them. Go to their website and join the resistance. They are looking for 1 million people to sign on before the inauguration so spread the word to everyone you know.

Stop Obama Constitutional Crisis

There’s a petition in place to address the validity of Obama’s citizenship which would put in jeopardy his whole presidency. You can go to Rally Congress and sign the petition which demands that Obama releases the necessary documents to prove that he’s eligible to be president of the United States to begin with. In addition, follow the actual case on line by going to the Obama Crimes website and donating whatever you can to help in the effort to stop what may be a Constitutional atrocity if he can pull the wool over someone’s eyes like this.

Give To Georgia Race

There’s a race in Georgia right now that is crucial. If the republicans don’t win that seat, it would give the democrats a filibuster proof majority in the senate. This runoff is still going on. If you can, go to this web page and give a donation. Every little bit counts and this race is too important to do nothing. If you’re in Georgia, get out the word and give on top of it.

Support The Truth Manifesto

Slowly but surely, the Truth Manifesto is becoming a unique voice for the conservative Christian. We are extremely serious about this and will continue our fight until God says stop. So, the number one thing you can do is to spread the word. Money is good also but at this juncture, we’re looking more towards being a main voice for the conservative Christian movement. So we want more people to know about what we’re doing.

There are a couple things that you can do to help spread the word:

1. Join Our RSS Feed – Click on the RSS feed subscription link at the top right hand corner of the blog and become part of the Truth Troops. Or, just click on the Get Fed The Truth button and subscribe via whatever feed aggregator you have.

2. Subscribe Via Email – If you’re not familiar with RSS feeds and the like, you can subscribe via email also. You can click on the Get Fed The Truth button and then the second tab to get Truth Manifesto updates via email. We suggest using FeedBlitz since it’s easy to configure.

3. Subscribe To Our Mobile Alerts – Yet another way to stay up to date with The Truth Manifesto is through your cell phone. There is a mobile tab in the Get Fed The Truth button. It will take you to TxtVox where you can sign up for text message alerts. When we post, you’ll get it. Also, the service only works with T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, Alltel, Virgin, Suncom, Boost, Nextel, Cellular South, and nTelos.

4. Add Us To Your Myspace, Facebook, and Multiply Profiles – If you are a part of any of these networks, add us as a friend to your profile and we’ll reciprocate the favor.

5. Add Us To Your Blog – If you’re a blogger and you blog on similar topics as the Truth Manifesto (Christian evangelical teaching, conservative politics, culture war, etc.), then add our link to your blog. We’ll go ahead and add yours IF it’s something that looks like it’s updated regularly. We want to partner with people who are serious about pushing the only agenda that counts: the Lord Jesus Christ’s. Plus…a little link love never hurt anybody.

6. Donate - There is a Paypal donate button in the first column. If you feel so inclined, please donate to our cause. I’m not pushing this a whole lot because quite frankly, I believe if this is what God wants me to do, He’ll provide the funds for me to do it. I simply wanted to mention it so you know the option is there.

7. Email Your Friends – Everyone has a circle of online friends in their address books. Send them this post by clicking on the share tab at the bottom.

Doing any one of these things will help us in the mission that we’ve laid out. I’m going to share that mission in detail in the next day or two.

It’s time for conservative Christians to unite and stand on the biblical principles that made this country great from the beginning. If you’re a liberal reading this site, know this: we’ve only just begun….and we’re not going anywhere.

God And Nazis Not Allowed

September 12, 2008 By: P.R.E.Z. Category: City of Heroes, God, Sarah Palin, barack obama, censorship, conservative republicans, roleplaying

Back in 2004, I started playing an MMORPG (massive multiplayer online roleplaying game for those of you not in the know) called City Of Heroes. Basically, you can get online with others and make your own superhero and go on missions to save the world in its various levels of risk. Since it’s rated Teen, it has a speech filter that you can activate to filter out unwanted vulgar and obscene vocabulary. Imagine my surprise when I typed in the word “God” and found it was censored.

I’ve been curious as to why God was censored along with such words as “crap” and “Nazi”. So I went on a little investigative journey to find out. What I found was that is was a carry over from another MMORPG by the same company, NC Soft, called Lineage which is fantasy based (Lord Of The Rings type fantasy). It was filtered out because of the other word that it’s usually tied to. Funny thing is when you type in that word, it’s unfiltered. Go figure.

I got a real good response from someone who played both games and was into the exact details:

The list is from another game. The code to implement the filter is not. The two are not 100% compatible, and “god” being filtered is one of the results of that incompatibility. To be more precise, the list contains multi-word filters, but the code supports only single word filters, and “god” is part of one of the multi-word filters that gets treated as a single word filter instead.

The bug is unlikely to be fixed. I reported it back in 2005 or so, and nothing came of it.

Now, I’m not saying that NC Soft has some sinister anti-Christ thing going on. That’s not the case. But what I find pitiful is the fact that they are so politically correct because of the world that we live in. I mean come on….Nazi?

Yet, every day when you look at the news, whenever God is mentioned, the person who said it is either vilified, said to be are crazy, made fun of in some way, or use it for their own advantage.

Let’s take this year’s 2008 election. Barack Obama has talked about small town U.S.A. and the people in it clinging to their guns and religion. On the other side, Barack supporters want to use religion, specifically Christianity, to make him look good. The hypocrisy is blatant.

Then there’s this video recently of Sarah Palin being interviewed by Charles Gibson of ABC News (who pretty much showed his bias in the way he asked his questions…but that’s another post):

Sarah Palin Clarifies “God and War” Remarks

Here’s the problem: Sarah Palin says that she wouldn’t presume to speak about knowing what God’s will is. This is just showing her true ignorance and what I see as a politically savvy answer to curry favor with voters. That’s just me though.

The Bible states that we, as Christians, can pray and receive the things we pray for when it’s according to the will of God (1 John 5:14). We receive those things because we’re thinking like He thinks and doing what He does (Phillipians 2:5, Ephesiians 5:1) which is evidenced by obeying His commandments (1 John 3:22). God’s word is His will.

It would probably be beneficial if she actually picked up a Bible and read it.

Let’s not be fooled by what’s going on here. Conservative republicans, though their philosophy is in line with much of scripture on major issues, they really use Christians at election time and summarily seem to forget them for the most part until the next election. However, even so, as Christians, if they’re not against us, they’re for us (Luke 9:49-50). We can call their card on their insincerity later (2 Timothy 4:2).

As the time winds down here, we’ll be seeing the very mention of God receive more and more hateful responses, let alone Jesus. This shouldn’t surprise us. We should be ready for this and being faithful until He comes back (1 Corinthians 4:1-2).
