A lot people think that the Civil Rights Movement began back in the 1960s and many a liberal, Democrat or otherwise, would want you to believe that. They’d also want you to believe that Republicans have just been racist for the tenure of their existence.
Nothing could be further from the truth. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: ignorance is not bliss.
As you can see, I’ve been on a mission here at the Truth Manifesto in spreading the Truth and it’s forms in the social and political arena. This Truth I speak of is based solely from a biblical perspective.
Today I’ve been focusing on the history of the Republican Party and giving just the facts, those pesky things that most folks would just rather see go away. What follows is a video that features historian David Barton and explains how the Civil Rights Movement was started back in the 1800s and was championed to its apex in the 1960s.
As you watch this nine minute video, keep in mind that regardless of what you believe, truth is truth by virtue of what it is, not whether you believe it or not.
We’ve heard it over and over in the news media. The Republicans are racists. The Republicans are greedy. Conservatism is evil. If you repeat something long enough, people believe it. Republicans have done a fine job at screwing things up the last eight years. History will testify to what they’ve done and what they’ve stood for.
I like history in that regard. I like the fact that history is what it is and you really can’t change it. Sure, there have been those who have tried to change history to fit their own agenda. People who come to the table with presuppositions comfortably in place set on proving their point with proud pretexts. Yet true history will always be what it is: the truth.
When it comes to Republicans, we can look at a sordid past of misdeeds which have gotten them to the place that they are now. Grant it, these are just a sampling of their consistent, selfish actions but it goes to show the root of the Republican agenda and why it must be stopped:
1854 – the Republican Party was formed mainly in opposition to the Kansas-Nebraska Act, a law that stated that the state could vote on whether or not they would allow slavery in those territories. A Democrat, president Franklin Pierce, signs the bill.
That same year, Horace Greely, founder of the New York Tribune and a staunch opponent of slavery, joins the Republican party and is steadfast in his refusal to give concessions to slavery.
1856 – Formerly a Democrat, Montgomery Blair joins the Republican party and defends Dred Scott in the famous Supreme Court case He later becomes a part of president Lincoln’s cabinet.
The Republican party meets to oppose Democrats pro-slavery policies. On July 14th, Charles Sumner gives his speech, “The Crime Against Kansas” on the senate floor and is subsequently assaulted by southern senator Preston Brooks, senator of South Carolina, who beats him into unconsciousness with a cane because he “insulted his state”. In the south, Brooks became a hero of ‘Southern pride’ and was re-elected after he walked out of the House of Representatives and resigned Congress.
1858 – Democratic senator, Stephen Douglas in his debates against Abraham Lincoln, states unequivocally:
I do not question Mr. Lincoln’s conscientious belief that the negro was made his equal, and hence is his brother; but for my own part, I do not regard the Negro as my equal, and positively deny that he is my brother or any kin to me whatever.
1860 – William Seward, who helped organize the Republican party, becomes Secretary of State. He then aids in drafting the Emancipation Proclamation.
Charles Sumner gives his speech, The Barbarism Of Slavery in which he stated:
Therefore, the battle which is now waged by the Union is for civilization itself, and it must have aid and God-speed from all who are not openly for Barbarism. There is no word of peace, no tone of gentleness, no whisper of humanity, which does not become trumpet-tongued against the Rebellion. War itself seems to “smooth its wrinkled front” as it undertakes the championship of such a cause. The armed soldier becomes a minister of mercy.
1862 – Republicans pass the Confiscation Act which stated that Confederates who did not surrender within 60 days of the acts passage were to be punished by having their slaves freed.
1863 – The Emancipation Proclamation is entered into law.
1865 – The 13th amendment to the Constitution is passed with a unanimous Republican passage and strong opposition from Democrats.
1866 – President Johnson’s veto is overidden by the Republican Congress to make African slaves officially American citizens.
The 14th amendment is passed. 94% of Republicans vote yes. 100% of Democrats vote no.
Fast Forward
1956 - Martin Luther King Jr. and Ralph Abernathy, major leaders in the Civil Rights Movement, vote for Dwight Eisenhower for president of the United States, a Republican.
1957 - Dwight Eisenhower signs the Republican Party’s Civil Rights Act.
1958 – Martin Luther King Jr. and other African-American representatives meet with president Eisenhower to discuss how to advance civil rights.
1962 – Soon to be governor Democratic George Wallace declares:
I draw the line in the dust and toss the gauntlet before the feet of tyranny, and I say, segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever.
He would oppose the Federal government in the integration of public schools and be a national figure in opposing the Civil Rights movement.
1965 – Senate Republican Everett Dirksen overcomes Democrat attempts to block the Voting Rights Act; 94% of Senate Republicans vote for landmark civil right legislation, while 27% of Democrats oppose.
You know, the United States would simply be awful without those meddling, racist Republicans.
With all the hoopla about having the first black socialist president, you think that all would be right with the world. The sky is bluer, the birds sing louder, and racism has fled forever to the backwoods of the culture. Surely electing a black president of the United States will prove that racism can be overcome through sure will of the people. Right?
Why am I hearing crickets chirping?
Live Free, Die Hard
I’m sure that most sane people would recognize that electing a black president only proves that we can elect a black president. That’s it. Though we’ve come a long way from where we were in the 60s, racism doesn’t magically disappear overnight. Quite the contrary. As the mantra of ‘change’ and ‘we can overcome’ rang from the Obama pulpit everywhere he went, dissenters erupted across the country at the news he had been elected.
Race crimes were perpetrated across America. FOX News reports:
DeneneMillner said a boy on the school bus told her 9-year-old daughter the day after the election: “I hope Obama gets assassinated.” That night, someone trashed her sister-in-law’s front lawn, mangled the Obama lawn signs, and left two pizza boxes filled with human feces outside the front door, Millner said.
Four North Carolina State University students admitted writing anti-Obama comments in a tunnel designated for free speech expression, including one that said: “Let’s shoot that (N-word) in the head.” Obama has received more threats than any other president-elect, authorities say. At Standish, Maine, a sign inside the Oak Hill General Store read: “Osama Obama Shotgun Pool.” Customers could sign up to bet $1 on a date when Obama would be killed. “Stabbing, shooting, roadside bombs, they all count,” the sign said. At the bottom of the marker board was written “Let’s hope someone wins.” Black figures were hanged by nooses from trees on Mount Desert Island, Maine, the Bangor Daily News reported. The president of Baylor University in Waco, Texas said a rope found hanging from a campus tree was apparently an abandoned swing and not a noose.
A black teenager in New York City said he was attacked with a bat on election night by four white men who shouted ‘Obama.’
Obama Has NOTHING On Jesus
The night Obama was elected, I had friends from my church tell me that black people were singing spiritual songs but replacing Jesus with Obama. Blasphemy of the highest order.
What I know for sure is that people will begin to see what Obama is really about if he makes it to inauguration. From the way people are acting around this country, the fear of many blacks is that he’ll be assassinated as was mentioned by that lovely young gentlemen in Georgia. That kind of loutish and evil sentiment would prove one thing for sure: Obama is not Jesus because I’d bet my life he won’t resurrect from the dead any time soon. He still needs to heal some blind folks and walk on water before that happens.
The Cure
The cure for racism is simple: the heart has to change. Jesus Christ has been changing hearts since the beginning of time and the Bible is no stranger to the sin of racism.
The Pharaoh instituted infanticide because of it (Exodus 1:16 -17). Moses faced it from his own family who used it as a cover for envy (Numbers 12:1). The apostle Peter engaged in it to protect his reputation with the Jewish leaders (Galatians 2:12). And our Lord faced it simply because he dare fraternize with another race (Luke 9:53).
Our example is Christ (Ephesians 5:1) who makes it plain that He’s not in the business of favoritism (Colossians 3:25). He has a problem with sin, not race (Ezekiel 18:4, Romans 1:18). The parable of the good Samaritan is the example of love that Christ wants us to have towards others, regardless of their race (Leviticus 19:18, Luke 10:30-37).
These people perpetrating these hateful acts across the nation are acting out of fear. But we have the cure for that for perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18). So as they hate, we love. Easier said than done? Most definitely. Only through the power of the Holy Spirit can we accomplish it (Zechariah 4:6). But if we submit to the Lord Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, His way, His Truth, and His commandments, then we shall overcome
For whatsoever is begotten of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that hath overcome the world, even our faith. (1 John 5:4).
Well, it’s the beginning of a new week and a new day. Many Americans are still reeling over the election and what it means for America. In response to this, the National Black Republican Association has put out an emancipation for white America:
White Guilt Emancipation Declaration
We, black American citizens of the United States of America and of the National Black Republican Association, do hereby declare that our fellow white American citizens are now, henceforth and forever more free of White Guilt.
This freedom from White Guilt was duly earned by the election of Barack Hussein Obama, a black man, to be our president by a majority of white Americans based solely on the color of his skin.
Freedom is not free, and we trust that the price paid for this freedom from White Guilt is worth the sacrifice, since Obama is a socialist who does not share the values of average Americans and will use the office of the presidency to turn America into a failed socialist nation.
Granted this November 4, 2008 – the day Barack Hussein Obama was elected as the first black president and the first socialist president of the United States of America.
This is declaration is telling in the fact that:
1. Not all black Americans voted for Obama.
2. Not all black Americans are fooled by Obama.
3. Not all black Americans think Obama’s socialist policies are good for America.
The following is an excerpt from the L.A. Times opinion column from Shelby Steele from Stanford’s Hoover Institution:
For the first time in human history, a largely white nation has elected a black man to be its paramount leader. And the cultural meaning of this unprecedented convergence of dark skin and ultimate power will likely become — at least for a time — a national obsession. In fact, the Obama presidency will always be read as an allegory. Already we are as curious about the cultural significance of his victory as we are about its political significance.
Does his victory mean that America is now officially beyond racism? Does it finally complete the work of the civil rights movement so that racism is at last dismissible as an explanation of black difficulty
? Can the good Revs. Jackson and Sharpton now safely retire to the seashore? Will the Obama victory dispel the twin stigmas that have tormented black and white Americans for so long — that blacks are inherently inferior and whites inherently racist? Doesn’t a black in the Oval Office put the lie to both black inferiority and white racism? Doesn’t it imply a “post-racial” America? And shouldn’t those of us — white and black — who did not vote for Mr. Obama take pride in what his victory says about our culture even as we mourn our political loss?
Answering no to such questions is like saying no to any idealism; it seems callow. How could a decent person not hope for all these
possibilities, or not give America credit for electing its first black president? And yet an element of Barack Obama’s success was always his use of the idealism implied in these questions as political muscle. His talent was to project an idealized vision of a post-racial America — and then to have that vision define political decency. Thus, a failure to support Obama politically implied a failure of decency.
Of course, it is true that white America has made great progress in curbing racism over the last 40 years. It is exactly because America
has made such dramatic racial progress that whites today chafe so under the racist stigma. So I don’t think whites really want change from Obama as much as they want documentation of change that has already occurred. They want him in the White House first of all as evidence, certification and recognition.
There is an inherent contradiction in all this. When whites — especially today’s younger generation — proudly support Obama for his post-racialism, they unwittingly embrace race as their primary motivation. They think and act racially, not post-racially. The point is that a post-racial society is a bargainer’s ploy: It seduces whites with a vision of their racial innocence precisely to coerce them into acting out of a racial motivation. A real post-racialist could not be bargained with and would not care about displaying or documenting his racial innocence. Such a person would evaluate Obama politically rather than culturally.
There is nothing to suggest that Obama will lead America into true post-racialism. His campaign style revealed a tweaker of the status quo, not a revolutionary. Culturally and racially, he is likely to leave America pretty much where he found her.
But what about black Americans? Won’t an Obama presidency at last lead us across a centuries-old gulf of alienation into the recognition that America really is our country? Might this milestone not infuse black America with a new American nationalism? And wouldn’t this be revolutionary in itself? Like most Americans, I would love to see an Obama presidency nudge things in this direction. But the larger reality is the profound disparity between black and white Americans that will persist even under the glow of an Obama presidency. The black illegitimacy rate remains at 70%. Blacks did worse on the SAT in 2000 than in 1990. Fifty-five percent of all federal prisoners are black, though we are only 13% of the population. The academic achievement gap between blacks and whites persists even for the black middle class. All this disparity will continue to accuse blacks of inferiority and whites of racism — thus refueling our racial politics — despite the level of melanin in the president’s skin.
My Prediction
My prediction throughout all of this is simple: nothing will change. The reason for this is because of ignorance and not attacking the root of the problem of racism.
Tomorrow I’m going to go into detail as to why we will always have racism and the absolute best way to fight it.
Ever expanding and thinking of new ways we can get the truth out to you, we’ve added yet another feature here at the Truth Manifesto. We now will have periodic podcasts where we’ll be talking about the various posts in more depth. These will be anywhere from ten to fifteen minutes.
We’ve teamed up with PodOMatic to bring you a look at the history and current events from a conservative Christian perspective.
Not too long ago, I did a post titled Democrats: A Legacy Of Racism, of which I’m sure many liberals and African-Americans refused to believe regardless of whether they were facts.
So, just to drive home the point, I’ve posted a speech by the controversial, radical, and racist 1960s activist Malcolm X. In this speech, he gives you an accurate picture, from the times, of what the Democrats really stood for which goes to show that even if you get it wrong in one area, you can get it right in another.
I’m amazed by the ignorance of people when it comes to history. More so than not, they cater to whatever their hearts want to believe, whether it’s based in the truth or not. We find it in cases like the O.J. Simpson trial, BarackObama’s record, and in the racist history of the democratic party which they constantly try to pander off to conservative Christians.
Though Democrats are loathe to admit it, as they should be, but their history is rife and full of racism. It is the exact opposite as has been portrayed by them in order to deflect attention form their checkered past (and I’m putting it lightly). It is the proverbial pot calling the kettle black.
The following is just a small snippet of the history of the Democrats: Hugo Black – Former Democrat Senator from Alabama and liberal U.S. Supreme Court Justice (who was appointed by Franklin D. Roosevelt), Hugo Black had a long history of hate group activism.
Black was a member of the KuKlux Klan in the 1920’s and sharpened his legal chops defending Klansmen under prosecution for racial murders. In one prominent case, Black provided legal representation to Klansman Edwin Stephenson for the hate-induced murder of a Catholic priest in Birmingham. A jury composed of several Klan members acquitted Stephenson of the murder, reportedly after Black expressed Klan gestures to the jury during the trial.
Jesse Jackson – Former Democrat presidential hopeful in 1984 and 1988 (who also claims to be a minister of Christ), Jesse Jackson has been known for his racist and divisive remarks for decades. His anti-Semitic slurs are commonplace, his most famous being his reference to New York City as “Hymietown“. He is the perpetrator of the same racism he says purports to fight against.
Craig Hines – as extreme left wing columnist, Mr. Hines is not only known for his racial prejudice, but also religious.
In a piece on Jesse Helms in 2001, he called Mr. Helms a ‘cracker’, and then turned around and accused him of racial bigotry. He had always been critical of the Catholic church and has gone on record as calling pro-life advocates neanderthals.
Senator Robert Byrd - Known by Rush Limbaugh as Robert “KKK” Byrd, it is a matter of record that Senator Byrd was an active Klansman and opponent of the Civil Rights Movement.
Extremely active in the Klan, he had risen in rank to the position of ‘Kleagle‘, a Klan member recruiter. He even lied about his supposed break off with them in 1952, still having communication with a Grand Wizard.
In a letter sent to the Klan leadership after he supposedly broken ties with them, he wrote the following statement in a letter:
“I am a former Kleagle of the KuKluxKlan in Raleigh County and the adjoining counties of the state. The Klan is needed today as never before and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia.”
Byrd was one of the leaders in opposing the Civil Rights Act in the 1960s.
Al Sharpton – Known for inciting his infamous Crown Heights race Riot in 1991, Al Sharpton is by far, one of the most vile racists in the political arena today. Another supposed man of the gospel (I am positive this is not the case whatsoever), his anti-Semitic as well as racist remarks against Caucasians is undeniable. Not satisfied with his performance in 1991, he caused another race riot in 1995 when a Jewish store owner had his store burnt to the ground and seven were killed.
The 1924 Democratic National Convention – The Democrats have a history of being the host to one of the largest KuKlux Klan gatherings in its history. On July 24th, the gathering took place accompanied by a barrage of racial slurs and epithets, ending in the now trademark symbol of a burning cross on the front lawn.
Democrats vs. Civil Rights Movement – In 1964, Democrat Senators organized the landmark filibuster of the Civil Rights Act. Those involved included Sen. Robert C. Byrd, Sen. J. William Fulbright (Bill Clinton’s mentor), Albert Gore Sr.(Yep. The father of the global warming hoax Al Gore who created the internet…so he says), Sen. Sam Ervin, and Senator Richard Russell.
The Truth Unfolds
When we look at the history of the Democratic Party, we see the truth of the matter. No matter what rhetoric is thrown out in the media outlets, people who really are interested in the truth can find it.
But let’s not go away without hearing the ultimate truth which says that anyone who harbors this kind of hatred in their heart is simply feeding the evil inside them because racism, perpetrated by anyone, is a sin (Numbers 12:1, Acts 10:28;34-35, James 2:1,4).
Lastly, let’s not walk around in ignorance because contrary to what they say, it’s not bliss:
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God (Hosea 4:6)
In 1998, president Clinton stated that he wanted to keep abortion “safe, legal, and rare”. Now if you’re paying attention, you’ll wonder why he said “rare”. Why would he want it to be “rare”? The inference is that there’s something wrong with it. Otherwise, he should have been encouraging women to say, “Yes please. Can I have another?”
This is also played out in this years election. The Democrats have decided to drop that whole line of verbal feces for a new line according to Kay Steiger of Pushback:
It looks like the Democratic Party dropped the “safe, legal and rare” part of its platform on choice. The new platform which was just released, puts less of an emphasis on the controversial abortion reduction framework.
Again, why reduce it if there’s nothing wrong with it to begin with? Isn’t it just like taking the pill? Most abortions are elective and have nothing to do with a life threatening situation. So why reduce it?
Yeah. They know why.
You Are Not A Person Says Me
If you asked a pro-abortionist (yeah, I said it like that on purpose) if they were pro-slavery, they’re probably going to say no (we hope). Yet pro-abortionists are guilty of using the same arguments as the pro-slavery crowd back in the 1800s.
In the Supreme Court case Dred Scott v. Sandford, they ruled that blacks were non-persons under the Constitution and therefore had no rights as citizens. In 1973 in Roe v. Wade, Sarah Weddington, attorney for Norma McCorvey (Roe), said this:
Life is an ongoing process. It is almost impossible to define a point at which life begins or perhaps at which life ends.
In one fell swoop, she argued for both abortion and euthanasia. In addition, just like Dred Scott v. Sanford, unborn babies have no rights. They’re nothing but property.
A Mirror Reflection
There are some rather stunning similarities both of these cases:
Dred Scott v. Sandford
Roe v. Wade
Slavery is legal
Abortion is legal
7 to 2 decision
7 to 2 decision
Blacks are non-persons
Unborn are non-persons
Blacks are property of the owner
Unborn are property of the owner
Abolitionist should not impose morality on the slave owner.
Pro-lifers should not impose morality on the mother.
From Legislating Morality, Geisler and Turek pg. 162
This just goes to show that those who don’t remember the past are doomed to repeat it.
The Bible IS Clear Contrary to what some pandering left leaning pastors want to say, the Bible really is clear on when life begins. As a matter of fact, it says life begins BEFORE conception (Jeremiah 1:5). It’s man’s evil devices that ends life, in this case through the government (1 Samuel 22:19), then calls it a good thing (Isaiah 5:20) since it’s legal. Ask any pro-abortionist if “pro-choice” is good.
Obama says he supports a woman’s right to choose which is synonymous with saying he is pro-abortion. He’s also made it clear he’s not interested in overturning Roe v. Wade and obviously wouldn’t appoint judges to do that. In short, he will continue the ’spirit of Herod’ (Matthew 2:16). THAT, folks, we don’t need.
The spiritual ramifications of this are devastating:
Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they may enlarge their border. But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind; (Amos 1:13-14)
Let’s not tempt the Lord anymore (Matthew 4:7) but relentlessly and tirelessly battle for the lives of those who can’t do it for themselves.
TOMORROW: Four reasons to have an abortion….or not.
The political climate in the United States today has become one of grave polarization and extreme partisanship. The two reigning parties, the democrats and the republicans, are on a continuous hate fest, most of it coming from one party which is the party I’m discussing in this post.
In the next few blog posts, I’ll begin to look at the political parties and lay out the foundation of why I’m not a part of either.
First in line are the democrats.
Oh…How Things Change
Today’s Democrats are not like yesterday’s democrats though there are a few things that still stand true for them. I’m not a democrat because of the philosophy that they adhere to in order to advance their ideas (or lack of them). Today, liberalism, a term that is synonymous with the democratic party, has crept into the political landscape, turning the party into an amalgam of an anti-Christian/anti-God, humanistic movement. It’s dangerously stooped in communism and socialism.
First, just to clarify, I’m going to list a few of the things that liberalism promotes, a philosophy which is embraced by the democratic party: pro-abortion (let’s call an ace an ace and a spade a spade), pro gay marriage, governmental welfare, medicaid, and social security, anti-death penalty, euthanasia, high taxation, big government, anti-religion. Take a good long look at the policies and belief system of Clinton and Obama. You’ll see this is dead on.
The last one alone should be basis enough for any Christian to stay away from affiliating themselves with that party. However, there are probably a few people out there saying, “I’m a democrat and I don’t support all of that.” That very well could be the case. But the litany of anti-Christ beliefs that the democratic party embraces should have any screaming for the hills and not lending any support to the party if you’re not willing to change it. It goes along the lines of avoiding the appearance of evil (1 Thessolonians 5:22) and liberalism is evil folks. Period.
Understand, the scope of this post is simply to state why I’m not a democrat so I’ll save the specific explanations for each of those for later posts.
Second, democrats masquerade as being a party for black people. The minorities. Surely, you jest?
The democratic party says, “Oh, we know you can’t do it yourself so we’ll help you because you’ll never get a break without us.” That devalues and keeps minorities in a slave mentality that they are weak and need someone to look out for them….like a master or a slave owner. I’m not buying it.
They Can’t Be Serious. Can They?
Obviously they are and it’s working. More African and Hispanic Americans vote democrat than any other party. I firmly believe this is largely because of ignorance and to tow the line to be recognized as being really black (this is a whole other blog post) which would qualify as…well…stupidity. So called black leaders (more like puppets and power mongers) lead this notion to make it look more legit.
Just check out this telling video of what kind of voters the Democratic party turns out:
It’s Just Because Of…Uh…Uhh..
Third, democrats, as I mentioned earlier, have no ideas. They know how to vilify, scream like babies, make scathing (and many times unfounded) accusations, and get emotions riled up. But in the arena of ideas that actually solve problems and issues, they have none. And the ones they have are rooted in communism and socialism and no one really wants to go there so they just stick to what they’re good at which is all the above.
So, as a Christian first with a conscious and a solid understanding of basic biblical truths and principles, I’ll never follow a political party that promotes these things. Ever.
